The 23 steps, written out in full

Most providers will tell you your pet is “treated with care” and leave it there. This is the actual process, every stage of it, taken from the operations plan we work to. Some of it is clinical, because the work is. We would rather you could read it than wonder.

Collection and identification

Steps 1–5

From your clinic to our facility. Your pet is named and recorded before anything else happens.

    Placed in a CliniCareBag

    At the clinic, your pet is placed in a CliniCareBag™ — purpose-built for this, and nothing like the plastic sacks used elsewhere. There is space on it for you to write your pet a note.

    The bag is labelled

    Your pet's name and the service you've chosen are written on the bag before it leaves the clinic.

  3. 3

    Collected by our driver

    A PetAftercare driver collects your pet from the clinic. We collect daily, and only ever animals in our care — never anything else.

    Carried in

    On arrival at our facility your pet is carried inside by hand and set down in the receiving area.

  5. 5

    Entered into the system

    Your pet's name and service type are entered into our system. From this point they exist as a tracked record, not a bag on a shelf.

Identification and keepsakes

Steps 6–10

The step that matters most: your pet gets a number that stays with them until they are back with you.

    A unique number is assigned

    Your pet and their basket are both given the same unique label. Everything belonging to them from here on carries that number.

  2. 7

    The tag goes on

    That ID tag is physically attached to your pet's bag. It stays with them through every stage that follows.

  3. 8

    Keepsakes taken

    Where your service includes them, an ink paw print and — if it's possible to take one — an ink nose print are made, and a clipping of their fur is sealed in a small glass vial and placed in your pet's basket.

    Cold storage, only if needed

    If a cremation chamber isn't free straight away, your pet is held in cold storage. We schedule to avoid this wherever we can.

  5. 10

    Moved to the cremation room

    When a chamber is ready, your pet is taken through to the cremation room.

Cremation

Steps 11–17

Your note is read to your pet before the chamber closes. Every stage after that is logged in a digital record — the batch, the start, the completion.

    Lifted from the bag

    Your pet is lifted out of their CliniCareBag by hand.

  2. 12

    The tag moves with them

    Their ID tag comes off the bag and goes onto the cremation machine itself, so the identification never leaves your pet's side.

  3. 13

    Your words are read to them

    Before the chamber closes, the note you wrote is read aloud to your pet, by name. Your pet is then placed inside, and a new cremation batch is opened in our digital system recording exactly who is in it.

  4. 14

    Cremation begins

    The cremation starts, under set operating conditions that are monitored throughout.

  5. 15

    Completion recorded

    When the cremation finishes, the digital logbook records the details of the run.

  6. 16

    Ashes collected

    Your pet's remains are collected from the chamber.

  7. 17

    Processed to fine ash

    The remains are processed in a cremulator so what returns to you is soft, clean, uniform ash. This is done indoors in a fully enclosed room.

Coming home

Steps 18–23

Your pet and everything belonging to them, reunited and hand-delivered.

    Ashes bagged

    For private services, your pet's ashes are sealed in a bag, and then double-bagged.

  2. 19

    Back with their keepsakes

    The ashes are taken through to the clean room and placed into your pet's own basket — the one carrying their number, their paw print and their vial of fur.

  3. 20

    Packed together

    Everything belonging to your pet is placed into one final bag. Nothing travels separately.

  4. 21

    Ready for delivery

    The finished package goes onto the ready-for-delivery shelf.

  5. 22

    Collected for the journey home

    Our delivery person collects your pet.

  6. 23

    Brought home

    A delivery report sets the route, and your pet is returned — to your veterinary clinic, or to your door in person.
